Villette-Annemasse: Stereau for a cross-border project

Les Services Industriels de Genève (SIG) and the town of Annemasse have awarded Stereau the contract to upgrade the Villette wastewater treatment plant to the latest standards. A cross-border collaboration has been established with the Ocybèle wastewater treatment plant in Gaillard, near Annemasse, for the joint treatment of micropollutants.

This partnership treats the wastewater of around 142,000 inhabitants on both sides of the border, improving the quality of discharge into the Arve and helping to preserve the environment of the Geneva basin.

The challenges

  • To provide state-of-the-art, high-performance, environmentally-friendly equipment capable of treating the micropollutants in the effluent of 142,000 population equivalents.
  • This upgrade meets the requirements of the 2016 Swiss Federal Water Protection Act, which requires 80% of micropollutants to be treated before water is discharged into watercourses.

Our solutions

Cutting-edge solutions have been implemented at the Villette wastewater treatment plant, positioning it as a model of performance and sustainability in Switzerland. Given the challenges of micropollutant treatment and new environmental requirements, our technologies have established themselves as essential allies in guaranteeing exemplary water quality and total compliance with the most stringent standards.

Our patented CarboPlus® technology, integrated into the treatment process, offers a simple, robust and effective solution for eliminating micropollutants. This process uses suspended activated carbon to capture and eliminate micropollutants without the need for massive chemical reagents. Operation is therefore easy, maintenance is reduced, and environmental impact is minimized. Additionally, the reactor is designed without any complex electromechanical equipment, enabling natural separation by gravity. This approach guarantees enhanced reliability, considerably reducing operating costs.

Benefits

  • CarboPlus® micrograin eliminates pesticides and micropollutants, guaranteeing superior quality water discharged into the Arve River.
  • Simplified operation and maintenance.
  • Compliance with Swiss federal regulations and future French standards (Ocybèle wastewater treatment plant).
